Chris Arbuthnott returned to school yesterday having competed in a swimming championship in Berlin in an attempt to qualify for the Rio Paralympics.  Chis performed at a very high level and gained a Gold in the 200m Butterfly, Silver in the 200m Individual Medley and Bronze in the 100m Butterfly – a fantastic set of results considering that this was an international event.  Chris swam personal best times in each of these events.

Unfortunately for Chris, despite swimming the time he needed in order to be considered for selection for Rio, the competitive nature of selection at this level has meant that he has missed out on a spot in the New Zealand team for the Paralympics.  While this is disappointing for Chris, we look forward to following his progress as he sets his sights on the 2020 games in Tokyo.
