Leadership Week - Day 2 - Dr Trent Cutts

Dr Trent Cutts is an Old Boy and was the Head Boy of PNBHS in 2007. After leaving school he headed to Dunedin in 2008 to study Health Sciences at the University of Otago. He narrowly missed out on a place in medical school after his first year and decided to return to study for a Bachelor of Biomedical Science in Human Physiology and Nutrition. He graduated in 2010. In his final year of his undergraduate degree he applied to the University of Otago and Griffith University in Australia for a position in medical school as a graduate and was successful in gaining a position at both the universities but decided to complete his medical studies in Australia. His clinical studies were based at the Gold Coast University Hospital. He graduated with a Doctor of Medicine in 2014 and was offered a house officer position back in New Plymouth at Taranaki Base Hospital. He is currently in his second post-graduate year as a doctor and currently working in the emergency department. He has intentions to train as an anesthetist and has applied to begin specialty training at the end of this year.

Surf lifesaving and multisport are his main passions outside medicine and he serves on the Executive of his local surf lifesaving club as well as the Taranaki Lifesaving committee. He has almost completed his surf lifeguard examiners award and is a member of the Taranaki Rescue squad responding to call outs in the coastal and marine environment.

Dr Cutts is the first Old Boy Head Boy we have invited back to speak to the school during NZ Leadership Week since the Leadership Programme began, a measure of the esteem with which he is held by the school.
