Cycling Nationals

Congratulations to the following students for their efforts in the Cycling Nationals held during the holidays. Also a big thank you to Mr Barwick and Mr Briggs for all the hard work and time they have dedicated to the trainings and events with the boys.

Sir Bernard Fergusson Team Time Trial

Senior A Team of Campbell Stewart, David Martin, Andrew McKennzie, Madi Hartley-Brown and Dylan Simpson won the national team time trial title in a time of 21:33.19 over Auckland Grammar. In 49 years of this event the school has only won this title once before.

Road Race

The national road race was held at Hiwinui in testing conditions with wind and rain making the riding conditions tough for all involved.

Jack Pronk was 2nd in the Under 15 B race over 18 kms.

Dylan Simpson 1st in the Under 17 race over 36km. Dylan was in a breakaway with two riders from Hamilton Boys’ High and showed his class at the end of the race to out think and time his sprint finish to perfection.

Campbell Stewart was 2nd in the Under 20 race over 54km.

Points Race

The national points race was held at Manfeild Park around a 3km circuit.

The day didn’t start so great for the boy’s high team, in the first race of the day 4 of our under 14 boys were involved in a heavy crash with put two in hospital. However, Adam Francis showed composure to come 2nd in the race.

Madi Hartley-Brown was 1st in the Under 17 points race. Madi showing his strong sprint ability winning two of the four sprint laps.

Campbell Stewart was 1st in the Under 20 points race. Campbell dominated this race winning four of the six sprint laps. With Campbell winning the Under 20 points this year means that over the past 5 years he has always won this event in his time at PNBHS. Outstanding achievement.

Overall the PNBHS team finished 3rd overall.
