Scholarship Presentation at Assembly Today

Scholarship is the highest New Zealand qualification available for secondary school students. In 2016, eight Year 12 students gained a total of thirteen Scholarships and we would like to recognise those young men this morning.

Entering Scholarship examinations is an ‘extra’, and the young men who elect to do so are putting themselves forward for a significant academic challenge. Simply entering Scholarship examinations takes courage, with only about five percent of candidates nationally gain a scholarship. It is great to see that here at Palmerston North Boys’ High School we have so many young men who put their hands up and accept challenges at such a high level. Furthermore, achieving a Scholarship pass does not happen by accident. These young men’s achievements are the result of a significant amount of hard work throughout their schooling. We have industry as one of our school values, and the young men who are about to come across stage embody this value in their approach to their schooling.

Ryan Adams - Scholarship pass in Physics
William Hunter - Scholarship pass in Physics
Stanley Jackson - Scholarship pass in Calculus
Jae Lee – Scholarship pass in Calculus
Gordon Zhao - Scholarship pass in Painting
Denzel Chung – Outstanding Scholarship in English
Finlay McRae - Scholarship passes in Calculus, English and Physics

Denzel and Finlay will both have their names added to the Scholarship Honours Board on the stage behind me, to recognise their significant achievements. Additionally, they will receive Academic Honours Ties at the full school Prizegiving.
