Premier 1 Semi Final – 2nd XV vs Tu Toa 1st XV

PNBHS won the toss and elected to play into the wind in the 1st half. Given the tough conditions and the strength of the wind, a tough 1st half threatened. From the kick off, Tu Toa camped in the PNBHS 22 with some good interplay in the forwards causing problems for the PNBHS defence. However, a big hit knocked the ball free and was pounced on by Mitch Leach deep in his own 22. Mitch then beat 3 defenders on his way to an outstanding try in the corner to give PNBHS a 5-0 lead. Back came Tu Toa and they used the wind well to camp in the PNBHS 22. Pressure told and they were rewarded with a penalty and then a try to lead 8-5. A well worked move from PNBHS created space and allowed Israel Young to crash over for a 10-8 lead before a penalty on half time from Tu Toa made the score 11-10.

PNBHS turned with the wind confident they could overturn the deficit. A strong start from the forwards was rewarded with an early penalty from Jack Harris. Further pressure was applied and, from a series of pick & go’s, Matty Oldridge sneaked over and the lead was now 20-11. Another penalty to Jack Harris extended the lead further before Kolo Tavake crashed over from close range to seal the victory.

A dominant second half performance from the 2nd XV and they deserve their place in the Premier 1 final on Saturday.
