PNBHS Harlequins v PNBHS Wanderers

The weather and ground conditions on Saturday made rugby challenging, but it was fantastic to see so many young men out representing PNBHS. We currently have 18 rugby teams and more than 450 young men involved in rugby. Nine of our teams play in the Youth grades (combined under 14 and under 15) and eight for ‘open grade’ Premier teams. The 1st XV plays a combination of traditional inter-school fixtures, the New Zealand Super Eight Schools competition and matches in the national knock out competition. Nine of our teams played at Coronation Park on Saturday and we had a photographer on hand to record images from these games.

MATCH REPORT

The PNBHS Harlequins played the PNBHS Wanderers in the Youth 5 competition. The first half was evenly contested, with the Harlequins going into the half-time break ahead by two tries. The heavy rain that fell during the concluding stages of the first half made handling difficult and left the field in a perilous state. The players in the Harlequins team adapted much better to the conditions and played a tight second half in which their forwards gained dominance through strong running and ‘pick and go’, and worked their way to a deserved victory.
