Blue September

At assembly this morning Mr Dominic King made a presentation about the impact of prostate cancer and bowel cancer on New Zealand males, sharing the story of his battle with prostate caner.  Every year about 600 New Zealand males die from prostate cancer and another 1200 from bowel cancer.  Many of these deaths would have been preventable with early detection.  Unfortunately, New Zealand males are often slow to seek medical help when they show the first symptoms of these diseases, and this can quite literally be a death sentence.  Mr King encouraged our young men to go home and have conversations with their brothers, fathers, uncles, grandfathers and other males important in their lives about the importance of being proactive in looking after their health.
