Year 9 student Douglas Bilsland recently competed at the World Solo Drumming Competition where he placed second in the under 15 category.  The World Solo Drumming Competition is held in October each year in Glasgow and attracts the top snare drummers from around the world.  Drummers compete in their age group until they reach 18 years of age, after which they compete in the open section.  Douglas was placed 1st by one judge and 2nd by the other, placing him second overall.  Douglas plays in the NZ Police Pipe Band, which is a Wellington based Grade 1 band (Grades 1-4 with Grade 1 being the highest). He is the youngest person to join the Police Pipe Band since its inception in 1933.  In the video below Douglas is accompanied by his father Graeme on the bagpipes.  Both are wearing the uniform of the NZ Police Pipe Band and Macleod Society tartan.
