For the next of our 2016 Student Profiles, we caught up with Year 13 student and PNBHS Prefect, Wesley Veikoso.

Wesley has been fully involved in school life throughout his time at Boys’ High, in particular through the Pasifika group and sport, playing rugby, 7’s and volleyball. This year Wesley has been selected in the Senior ‘A’ 7’s team, quite an achievement for a front row forward, and a good indication of his mobility on the rugby field. Wesley is also currently involved with the 1st XV rugby training squad and is hoping to be picked in the team again in 2016.

Wesley’s sporting prowess has brought him to the notice of the Sydney Rabbitohs, with whom he is contracted until the end of this year. In 2015 Wesley spent Term One training with the Rabbitohs under 16 team, and attended Matraville High School, in Sydney. This year he has made his school work his main priority. This meant that he declined a similar opportunity with the Rabbitohs under 18 team so that he could remain at school and ensure he is able to gain the best grades and qualification that he can.

Wesley’s Tongan culture is very important to him and he has been involved with the Pasifika performance group for the past two years, and will be again in 2016. He really encourages all of the Pasifika students at Palmy Boys’ to get involved with the Pasifika performance group and the Pasifika Fusion Festival. Wesley is looking forward to having a leadership role with the group this year and having the opportunity to work with the younger Pasifika students in particular.

Wesley is hoping to become a professional sportsman when he leaves school, a dream that he is well on the way to achieving. He is keen to use his role as a Prefect to be a positive role model for all Pasifika students at Palmy Boys and wants to see them embracing the opportunities that are available to them.
