The 1st XI travelled to Masterton to play Rathkeale College in the Intercity Secondary School Hockey Competition. Following a run of high scoring fixtures, the 1st XI went out intending to focus on maintaining possession around the back. This focus was to be prioritized over scoring goals.

PNBHS were successful in this regard as they dominated possession for most of the first quarter, looking very composed. Unfortunately, a lapse in concentration during a counterattack allowed Rathkeale to score a goal at the end of the quarter.
PNBHS were undeterred and stayed calm in their approach to the match. Blake Rhodes-Robinson scored two goals in quick succession. The second goal was a remarkable deflection that caught the roof of the net.

At the halftime break, PNBHS changed their structure to begin attacking. This strategy proved successful as they scored three more goals—two to Zach Carline and one to Connor Mannagh off a PC variation. As the match progressed, PNBHS added three more goals to Carter Rhodes-Robinson, Blake Rhodes-Robinson and Perry Smith. Rathkeale scored a consolation goal late in the game, giving PNBHS an 8-2 win. The match was a decent performance for PNBHS and good practice leading into their upcoming traditional fixtures.
