Bruce's Last Day
Today was the final day at PNBHS for exchange student Bruce Weatherhead from Loretto School in Scotland. While here Bruce has played cricket for the 2nd XI and scored 175 not out off 201 balls in the team’s match against Wairarapa College 1st XI. He was presented with a miniature bat at assembly today to commemorate his achievement. We wish him safe travels for his return home.
NCEA Awards
Congratulations to Teo Jauregui-Na, Dhruv Banerjee and Kexu Chen whose excellent achievement in NCEA was recently recognised with the presentation of an award by the Ministry of Education. The NCEA Academic Awards ceremony acknowledged the high achievement attained in NCEA by students of migrant and former refugee backgrounds from schools across the Manawatū and Horowhenua regions. It was a privilege to be able to host the event in the Speirs Centre and to acknowledge the dedication and determination displayed by all of the award recipients.
Mural
Last week, the school community and staff voted for the mural concept they wanted to see painted on the canteen wall.
I am sure you will agree that all the concepts were impressive, and the voting process showed that all four designs were well received by the school community.
After a few minor adjustments to the concept, painting will start during the holidays.
I am happy to announce the winning design is shown below.
Book Review
Thank you to Fletcher Lochhead, who presented the final book review for term one in assembly this morning. Fletcher reviewed The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, written by Agatha Christie. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is available in the PNBHS Library.
NCEA Course Endorsements at Level 2 and Level 3
At assembly this morning presentations were made to young men
who earned NCEA Course Endorsements at Level 2 and Level 3.
Course endorsements recognise the achievements of students in a
particular subject. In order to gain an Excellence Course
Endorsement a young man must gain a minimum of 14 credits at
Excellence level in a single school year. This must include at least
three credits from externally assessed Standards and three credits
from internally assessed Standards. Congratulations to the young
men whose diligent and determined approach to their academic
studies in 2023 saw them achieve Excellence Course
Endorsements.

Congratulations to Mike Sung who has been selected in the NZSO National Youth Orchestra, his second year in this orchestra. This Orchestra is for musicians aged under 25 and Mike is one of three clarinets selected. The orchestra will rehearse early July before performing in concert at the Michael Fowler Centre (Wellington) on the 5th of July and Regent in Palmy on the 6th of July.
