PNBHS COLTS CRICKET V HASTINGS BOYS' HIGH SCHOOL

MONDAY 5 MARCH 2018

The PNBHS Colts team hosted Hastings Boys' High School yesterday in the second round of the knockout NZCT fixtures, and after losing the toss were put into the field.

The boys started well, however, they found themselves on the receiving end of a classy innings from the opposition number four batsman. The boy didn’t help themselves, dropping him on at least three occasions. After a spirited pep talk at drinks, the boys roared back into the contest taking the last six wickets for 24 runs. A special mention to Jonty Fleck and Josh Campbell who were miserly with the ball before Michael Watkins picked up three of the last four wickets.

A score of 150 was always going to be challenging on a wicket that had some variable bounce in it. Boys' High lost three quick wickets but opener Jaiden Meyer produced a classy innings to keep the boys in the game. When he was dismissed for 62, Curtis Heaphy, Jonty Fleck and Lachie Bradford all showed calm heads to get the side over the line with five overs to spare. A comfortable win in the end against a handy side that will hold them in good stead for their final qualification match.
