PNBHS travelled to play the unbeaten RBHS 2ndXV. They had beaten both Hastings and Hamilton so a tough game was in the offing. A slow start from PNBHS gifted the initiative to Rotorua Boys’ and they were immediately onto the attack using their big ball carriers effectively. Strong defence initially from PNBHS held them at bay and just as they looked to have weathered the storm, a poor read from a ruck allowed Rotorua to sneak through and get the first points. Buoyed by this they were immediately back on attack, stretching our defence. As a result of this, a missed tackle allowed them to score again and it was 14-0 early in the game.

This seemed to galvanise PNBHS who camped in the Rotorua 22 for the next 10 minutes applying pressure. Unfortunately, the attack lacked fluency and from a turnover Rotorua attacked from deep and after a number of phases were rewarded with a 3rdtry and a 19-0 lead. PNBHS responded well and went straight back onto the attack and were rewarded with a well taken try to James Cameron.

The second half started as the first had finished with PNBHS attacking the Rotorua line. They went close on a number of occasions. Unfortunately, the second half followed the same pattern as the first. Inaccuracies in attack resulted in a turnovers and Rotorua scoring long range tries. PNBHS kept battling to the end and were rewarded again with another well worked score to Pau Sekona.

Despite having more of the territory and possession, PNBHS were punished for their errors on attack and improving our accuracy will be a focus this week as we head into Polson Banner.

Final score: 38-10

Scorers:

Tries: James Cameron, Pau Sekona
