Year 11 students Hamish Ramsay and Jamie Thompson have been on the Sport Manawatu Junior Council for the last two years. The Junior Council works with Sport Manawatu to provide feedback about secondary school’s sports competitions in the region. Alongside this, Hamish and Jamie have also had the opportunity to work with the staff at Sport Manawatu to develop their own leadership skills so that they can influence their school community and encourage involvement in sport. Last week Hamish and Jamie had the opportunity to attend the Regional Sport Conference, where they and the other members of the Junior Council attended a range of presentations, including the use of technology and social media to promote participation in sport, the use of technology in scoring and refereeing in sport, and how to encourage positive parental support from the sidelines.
