Year 13 student Adam Martin (right) and Year 12 student Luke Scott (left) are in the midst of their preparations to compete in the upcoming Age Group Triathlon World Cup.  The World Cup race will be held on the Gold Coast on September 14 and both Adam and Luke will compete in the 16 – 19 years race, which consists of a 750m swim, 20km road cycle and a five km run.

Luke explained that he is currently training about 16 hours per week, consisting of three to four swims varying in length from about 5 – 6km, three rides of between 30 and 60km, and three runs of up to 15km.  He has been involved in triathlon since he was about seven or eight years old, having started with the ‘I tried the tri’ programme through the Manawatu Triathlon Club.  About 18 months ago, Luke decided to increase his level of commitment and started training competitively.  Having played football for a number of years, he has had to sacrifice that in order to meet the training commitments required to compete at this level in triathlon.

We wish both Adam and Luke all the best for their remaining training and for the upcoming World Cup race.
