2019 Sport Development Programme Trials

It was fantastic to welcome a large number of young men who trialled for the 2019 Sport Development Programme.  It was a great opportunity for a number of our ‘first team’ and pathway team coaches – many of whom are involved with the Sports Development Programme – to meet many of the young athletes coming to PNBHS in 2019.

Mr Peter Finch – Strength and conditioning trainer Sale Sharks, International Rugby Academy New Zealand (IRANZ) conditioning trainer

Mr Bruce Hemara – PNBHS Old Boy, All Black, Manawatu rugby representative, 1st XV assistant coach

Mr Lifeimi Mafi – PNBHS Old Boy, NZ U19 and U21, NZ Sevens, Manawatu and Taranaki rugby representative, professional rugby for Munster and Perpignan

Mr Blair van Stipriaan – PNBHS Old Boy, Manawatu Development rugby team coach, 1st XV coach

Mr Stacey Lambert – PNBHS Old Boy, Manawatu Jets

Mr Tim McTamney – Manawatu Jets coach, professional basketball coach NZ and overseas, Premier A basketball coach

Mr Scott Davidson – Manawatu Cricket team, 1st XI Cricket coach

Mr Jake Blanks – NZ Junior Blacksticks, NZ Development hockey team, Central Districts NHL team, Central Districts U18 coach, 1st XI Hockey coach

Mr Bruce Kensington – PNBHS Old Boy, NZ U21 and NZ Masters hockey teams, Manawatu hockey representative, former 1st XI hockey coach (twice taking the team to Rankin Cup finals)

Mr Willie Hodge – PNBHS Old Boy, 2nd XI Football coach, Central Football League player

Mr Stephen Dawson – 1st XI Football coach

The Sports Development Programme provides promising Year 9 and 10 sportsmen with the opportunity to develop fully as talented athletes. The programme includes five specialised classes in basketball, cricket, football, hockey and rugby. A key objective of the Sports Development Programme is to promote ideals in our young athletes that will enable them to make informed decisions about furthering their involvement in sport.

Objectives of the Sports Development Programme

· To instil and enhance the school values in each student (Integrity, Courage, Pride, Respect, Industry, Humility).

· Develop lifelong learning opportunities through a challenging and stimulating environment.

· To promote ideals in our young athletes that will enable them to make informed decisions about furthering their involvement in sport.

· To develop a greater understanding in our junior athletes of current methods in sport, in areas such as:

*Measuring Improvement

*Team and Individual Philosophy
