Cricket Report PNBHS 1st XI VS The Hutchins School (Tasmania) 1st XI - 24/01/19

Having won the toss and elected to bat on the PNBHS No 1, the 1st XI made a sprightly start, scoring 45 for 1 in the first 10 overs. Unfortunately, the next 6 overs saw 4 wickets fall for 10 runs, meaning some serious rebuilding needed to be done. Fortunately, Henry Deans found a willing ally in debutant, Jonty Fleck, who supported him for 22 overs in a 7th wicket stand of 105. This allowed Boys’ High to finish on 200 all out off the last ball of the innings as Henry Deans finally succumbed for a masterfully constructed 95. Jonty scored 27.

Chasing a good score on a wicket which was slow and low, the opposition got off to a good start as the 1st XI opening bowlers were too short in their lengths. The introduction of spin, however, soon put paid to this and wickets started to tumble. Sustained pressure allowed PNBHS to gain the ascendancy and following a good run out, the opposition was bowled out for 126 for the 1st XI to win by 74 runs. Charlie Lourie took 2 for 23, Henry Deans 2 for 12 and Hugo Wakeling 5 for 28.

It was a good hit out for the team before the Super 8 Tournament to be held in Tauranga from 28 to 31 January.
