Super 8 Cricket Tournament, Tauranga

Day 3 - PNBHS 1stXI VS Napier Boys’ High School 1stXI - 30/01/19

Napier won the toss and elected to bat first on fair-looking Fergusson Park pitch. The PNBHS bowlers did a good job up front but allowed the scoreboard to tick over with a multitude of wides. They did stick to their task, however, and with an improved effort in the field, the 1stXI was able to keep the opposition batsmen in check. Once the spinners were introduced, the Napier batsmen looked out of sorts and wickets started to fall with regularity. With 7 wickets falling to spin, they were bowled out in the 34thover on a score of 151. Henry Deans took 2 for 21, Charlie Lourie 2 for 21, Thomas Kirk 2 for 18 and Jack Wenham 3 for 17. All of the bowlers figures would have looked more impressive but for 28 wides being bowled.

The run chase started inauspiciously with 2 wickets falling in the 3rdover with the score on 7. Fortunately, the incoming batsmen placed a higher value on their wickets and the fight back started with a composed, chanceless innings from Curtis Heaphy. He was admirably supported by Henry Deans in a 76 run stand for the 4thwicket, allowing Regan Fleming and young Jaiden Meyer to finish off the innings in style. PNBHS passed the Napier score in the 44thover to score 154 for 6. Henry Deans made 24 and Curtis Heaphy an impressive 66.

This means that PNBHS will face New Plymouth Boys’ High School in a playoff for 3rdand 4thplace.

Congratulations to Year 13 student Levi Woolson who was capped after yesterday's game.
