3rd XI Cricket v Wanderers

The 3rds came up against Wanderers on Saturday who finished the round robin competition comfortably on top. The 3rds lost the toss and were asked to bowl on a pitch that looked like it could have some life in it. It was a great start as the opening batsman tried to pinch a quick single on the 2nd ball and Thomas Bell threw down the stumps off his own bowling. One of the top batsman in the grade was dismissed for 1. Cooper Ryder then got one to bounce and take a glove through to slips, before one kept low at the other end and crashed into the pad dead in front. As Cooper sent one into the top of off stump it wasn’t just the bail that broke. 10-4 off 4 overs. Wanderers offered a bit more resistance before Jett Donald-Charnley and Mr Vindriis ripped through the middle order. Drinks were taken at 79-8, a couple of big overs were quickly ended as Alex Hazelton took the final 2 wickets in his first over. Wanderers all out for 104 in 22 overs. Mr Vindriis 3-23, Alex Hazelton 2-6 and Cooper Ryder 2-23. The 3rds start was disastrous losing a wicket first ball. 20-4 after 17 overs as batsmen struggled to find gaps and deal with the swing. The 5th wicket fell for 42 after 25 overs and Wanderers were acting confident. A partnership between Aadesh Ganugapati and Mr Vindriis got the score through to 72-6 off 31 overs. 33 needed off 9 overs and the 3rds felt in control. 3 more wickets fell and it was down to Jett Donald-Charnley and Cameryn Caffell to get the last 11. 3 singles were followed by 2 lusty blows straight down the ground by Jett to be 105/9 off 37.4 overs. A win by 1 wicket, Aadesh Ganugapati 25, Jett Donald-Charnley 17 not out.
