1st XV v Lindisfarne College 1st XV Match Report

Sunday 31 March

The 1st XV Wider Squad had its first hit out for the year against Lindisfarne College.  Played in beautiful conditions, the team overcame the hiccup of a broken down bus and late arrival to start the match promisingly thanks to an astute kicking game.  Set piece execution was also to the forefront and the team found itself threatening the home sides line early.  Unfortunately an intercept try let Lindisfarne of the hook and we were down 7-0 after as many minutes.  We righted the ship and hit back with two quick tries through incisive back running and at the half, after playing into the wind, the score was 10-7.

The third quarter was all us as our running game and quicker cleanout allowed us to punch holes at will in the Lindisfarne defence system.  This gave the halves more time to execute and we scored four quick tries.  Another try in the last quarter gave us plenty of breathing space and while the opposition scored a couple of late tries of their own, the team had a comfortable win.

The play of the young debutants was heartening with plenty of vim and vigor about their actions.  More accuracy will be needed in the coming months but there was plenty to like about the first up performance.

Final score 36-19
