2nd XV v Hamilton BHS - Saturday 15 June

PNBHS 2nd XV welcomed the always strong Hamilton Boys for the third round of the Super Eight competition. This game is always an awesome challenge but one the 2nd XV entered with some confidence following their victory on Wednesday.

PNBHS started the game aggressively, putting in some big hits defensively, but a poor decision gifted Hamilton an early try and the lead. PNBHS looked to respond and created some chances but were inaccurate before Hamilton broke out and scored a good second try for a 10-0 halftime lead.

The halftime chat focused on the belief that we could win the game and the need for the 2nd XV to have to seize the opportunity and make things happen. From the kick off, the 2nd XV forced a penalty and off a lineout, the forwards went to work putting together numerous phases and taking the game to the much-vaunted Hamilton pack. From a quick tap penalty, Charlie Justice forced over and it was game on.

PNBHS attacked with vigour again and Hamilton were starting to look rattled. From an overthrown lineout, Jarred Sellwood crashed over and PNBHS were in front. As expected, Hamilton rallied. They worked their way into the PNBHS 22 and with 10 minutes to go, they were camped on the PNBHS line.

The character of this team came to the fore again. They showed tremendous composure, courage and pride to repel attack after attack before they earned a penalty which was kicked into touch to seal a memorable victory.

Tries: Charlie Justice, Jared Sellwood
Conversions: Reif Dawson (2)
