FAHS 2nd XV vs PNBHS 2nd XV
Thursday 4 July 2019
The 2nd XV traveled over to Feilding to face their local rivals keen to end a very busy and challenging term on a high. PNBHS started superbly in trying conditions, stringing a number of phases together before Reif Dawson touched down. From the kick off, they attacked with gusto and Reif again finished a well-crafted try. Feilding responded with some good charges and forced a couple of penalties before the 2nd XV responded as their forwards went to work. A driving lineout and some close charges saw Darius Mafileo crash over. Again, Feilding responded with a penalty before good play off another lineout saw Bailey Tyler take an inside ball and power over.
The second half saw a number of changes for the FAHS 2nd XV and they came out firing. An error from the kick off gifted them a try and suddenly it was game on. The 2nd XV responded and after a number of phases, Jared Sellwood got his arms free and his offload saw Leo Gordon over to extend the lead. Errors began to creep into the PNBHS game and Feilding backed by some vociferous support began to prosper from the referees decisions. Twice they took advantage of poor errors and scored two further tries to reduce to deficit to 3 with 12 minutes remaining.
The 2nd XV regrouped and responded to the challenge. The forwards took the game to Feilding through a series of pick ‘n’ go’s before the ball was moved right for Kopere Tanoa to slam the ball down and extend the lead. The PNBHS forwards were now starting to get on top and they began to dominate the set piece and control the game. PNBHS comfortably saw out the remaining 10 mins to get the win and retain their unbeaten run and the Bruiser Shield.
Final score 28-38.
