Thank you to Old Boy Mr. Paul Yates, who presented at the Prefect’s Assembly yesterday.  Mr. Yates attended PNBHS from 1981 – 1985 and was in Albion Club.  He was heavily involved in co-curricular activities, playing cricket and football, was a member of the computer club, and a keen public speaker and debater.

At the conclusion of his secondary schooling, Mr. Yates completed a Bachelor of Arts degree at Massey University.  While there he joined a comedy group which included Jeremy and Nigel Corbett, performing throughout the country during Orientation Week and eventually evolving into the TV show Away Laughing.  Mr. Yates has worked with major film directors Peter Jackson, Steven Spielberg and James Cameron and has featured on Shortland Street, Telly Laughs, Pulp Comedy, Facelifts, How to Meet Girls from a Distance and numerous others.  Mr. Yates was the creative producer for What Now and is currently helping to write and produce the current TV series Wellington Paranormal.

Mr. Yates had a very pertinent message about following the things you enjoy doing and are passionate about.  He illustrated this by talking about his career pathway and the opportunities that he has had.  Mr. Yates commented that when you are doing something you enjoy, you don’t think about going to ‘work’.
