CRICKET REPORT: PNBHS 1ST XI VS Marist CC – 16/11/19

Batting first, the PNBHS openers made a steady start, allowing the 4th wicket pair of Deans and Davidson to accelerate the scoring. They settled themselves in, then took toll of the bowling with some powerful stroke play, putting together a 119-run partnership in 21 overs. They hit 11 fours and 5 sixes, to take the score to 180 in the 41st over. Unfortunately, the rest of the batting order was unable to continue this momentum as wickets fell in the final push. Nevertheless, the 1st XI was able to amass 223 all out in 47.3 overs. Debutant Josh Campbell scored 32, Henry Deans 57 and Mr Davidson 86.

The Boys’ High bowlers had Marist under pressure from the start. Tight bowling was supported by good fielding and catching to have them 40 for 3 in the 11th over. This pressure was kept up, with wickets falling at regular intervals as the Marist batsmen tried to dig themselves out of a hole. The only negative was that the fielding intensity dropped off in the final 10 overs and this allowed a 10th wicket partnership of 89 runs to develop. This wicket eventually fell with the score on 196 in the 49th over, handing PNBHS a win by 27 runs. Jack Wenham took 2 for 46, Jonty Fleck 2 for 18 and Thomas Kirk 4 for 36.

This was a very impressive performance by the 1st XI.
