New Zealand Secondary School Championships
Newtown Park, Wellington
6-8 December 2019
In atrocious weather conditions, pouring rain and strong gale force winds, placings not times were important. The school team of 12 adapted well keeping their composure to record a fine set of results. Inclement weather meant the Road Race championship had to be cancelled.
Angus Lyver – Junior Boys (U16)
1st 200m – a fine effort in a race run in a torrential downpour – 23.22secs
2nd Long Jump – 6m.33cm – another outstanding effort in trying conditions
The Junior 4 x 100m finished 3rd. Team members:
Greg Austin, Caleb Evans, Forbes Kennedy and Angus Lyver. They produced quality changes which meant another outstanding leg from Angus and a gutsy and composed team performance.
In the 4 x 400m run on times the team of Greg Austin, Caleb Evans, Sam Lohrey and Forbes Kennedy finished 8th to gain valuable experience for the future, a top effort 3mins 57.15secs.

Senior Results:
Benjamin Wall ran a fine tactical race to finish 4th in a rough close race in tough conditions. A fine performance - 4mins.05.60secs.
Guy Peterson in the javelin with gale force winds, meaning luck played a part. Threw 44.53cm to finish 10th. This was not a true indication of his ability, none-the-less a creditable effort.
Liam Wall 1500m - 4mins 25.83secs, gained valuable experience as a first
year senior.
Robert Norman 800m – 2mins 8.55secs
Dirki Botha 800m – 2mins 6.18secs
Senior 4x400 finished 13th. Team members:
Angus Lyver, Robert Norman, Liam Wall and Dirki Botha. A gutsy effort a valuable experience for the future.
Once again school athletes can perform well if they train regularly and adapt to the conditions.
