PNBHS 1st XI vs Auckland Grammar School – 3 Day Traditional – 08/03/20 - Day 1

Starting at 1 PM, Auckland decided to bat first. The PNBHS opening bowlers put together a fiery spell but failed to challenge the batsmen’s stumps. The Grammar batsmen seemed keen to leave a lot, not showing much intent, and with some challenging bowling and fielding, the scoring was slow. By tea, they were 85, for 3 from 35 overs. The day continued in much the same vein, with the only notable action being 6 dropped catches and a missed run out from Boys’ High. By 6:30, Auckland had progressed to 209 for 5 from 81 overs. The wickets were shared among the bowlers and there was a run out. Battle resumes at 10:30 AM Monday 9 March.

PNBHS 1st XI vs Auckland Grammar School – 3 Day Traditional – 09/03/20 - Day 2

After attending a traditional Auckland Grammar School assembly, PNBHS took the field to resume play. AGS batted for 5 overs, allowing their captain to reach his maiden century, before declaring on 226 for 5.

A nervous start saw Boys’ High lose wickets in the 1st and 7th overs, before some dogged batting settled the game down. Curtis Heaphy joined Lachie Bradford in an unbeaten 3rd wicket stand of 106 before rain arrived at the tea break. Unfortunately, the rain continued to fall, putting paid to any further play. PNBHS finished the day on 118 for 2 with Heaphy on 53 not out and Bradford on 54 not out.

In an effort to make up for lost time, the match is scheduled to start at 9:30 AM Tuesday.

PNBHS 1st XI vs Auckland Grammar School – 3 Day Traditional – 10/03/20 - Day 3

Day 3 started in Auckland sunshine and the PNBHS batsmen decided to make a game of it by hitting out to advance the match. This tactic, unfortunately, increased the risk and wickets started to fall. They carried on regardless and were bowled out for 199 with Lachie Bradford scoring 63 and Curtis Heaphy 71, surrendering a lead of 27.

Grammar come out with more intent in their second innings, and with the Boys’ High bowlers and fielders inexplicably off their game, were able to plunder quick runs, declaring at 151 for 2 in the 23rd over.

With 2 and a ½ hours to score 179, the PNBHS batsmen strode to the crease with the intention of emulating the opposition’s run-scoring feats. Unfortunately, wickets in the third, fourth and fifth overs put paid to that and it was all hands on deck to save the game. After a further wicket, Jaiden Meyer and Bayley Latter put together a staunch partnership, holding on for 20 overs and when they fell, Jonty Fleck and Regan Fleming continued the good work, chewing up time until the close of play. Bayley Latter scored 30 and PNBHS retained The Oram Cup for the 7th year in succession.

The 1st XI would like to thank all the supporters who journeyed to the “Big smoke” to cheer them on. Particular thanks go to Mr Barry Lyver who procured the CricHQ camera and ran the live feed (any technical glitches were not his).
