The Te Reo Māori department walked to Te Marae o Hine (The Square) to participate in a day of remembrance, a day of learning and a day of acknowledging and connecting to our local iwi, Rangitāne. Henare Kani from Te Manawa gave a formal welcoming to the students.  Nuwyne Te Aweawe Mohi spoke on Te Marae o Hine and its significance, Whakapai Hauora delivered a Ki O Rahi workshop and matua Chase Maniapoto and year 13 Caleb Falkner taught Ariki (Māori weaponry activity).

The words of Te Peeti Te Aweawe:
'Kua kaupapa i au te aroha, mā koutou e whakaoti.'
I have laid the foundation of friendship as a legacy to guide future generations'.
