Today we farewelled our gap student Mr. Lars Herbold, who unfortunately has to return home to Germany due to the threat of the coronavirus and its impact on international travel.

While he was here Mr. Herbold traveled extensively around New Zealand and was able to combine his interest in cycling with touring the country. Our Sports Coordinator, Mr. Calton, has valued his assistance, support and efficiency in his role with sports administration. Mr. Herbold also shared many opinions, facts and statistics on any subject that arose.

Mr. Herbold has been living at College House since his arrival in July last year.  He has been fully involved in hostel life supporting the hostel staff in their day-to-day duties.  Mr. Herbold’s involvement in hostel and school outdoor education camps and assistance with hostel sporting trips and other excursions has been greatly appreciated.

Mr. Herbold is an accomplished violinist and has enjoyed playing with the Manawatu Symphonia while he has been here.

Later this year Mr. Herold will begin his Business Information Systems studies at the University of Cologne (1387, 6th oldest university in Europe).  We wish him all the best and safe travels.  Hopefully Mr. Herbold will return to New Zealand sometime in the future.
