Well done to PNBHS students Jacob Waugh, Piripi Pinfold-Whanga and John Hopcroft, who competed in the Manawatu/Whanganui heats of the 2020 Race Unity Speech Awards yesterday.  Congratulations to John, who placed third, and Jacob, who was second, and will go through to the semi-finals of the competition.

The Race Unity Speech Awards were initiated by the New Zealand Bahá’í Community in 2001 in support of Race Relations Day (21 March).

“The speech topic this year is Titiro whakamuri, kia anga whakamua – To face the future, look to the past. This year we’re asking speakers to draw on the past to set out their vision for the future of race relations in Aotearoa. This is the 20th annual Race Unity Speech Awards, and the 22nd celebration of Race Relations Day in Aotearoa. Much has been achieved in this time, yet we are more concerned about racism than ever before. What will the next 20 years hold for our nation?”
