A Request from the School Archives to our School Community,

COVID-19 and the enacted responses, particularly the Alert level 4 lockdown, is a unique global event – an event that is perhaps (without being too dramatic) going to affect the rest of the century. It would be incredibly valuable and important for us to document how it affected the PNBHS family.

In an effort to transition our students, your children, from “lockdown” to more normal schooling, we are asking teachers to have students reflect and record their experiences.

As well as our young men, we would also like to receive information from our wider school community; parents, Old Boys and others with a connection to Palmerston North Boys’ High School. It would be extremely valuable if we could get some of your perspectives on some of the same questions that we are asking our students, or indeed on any of the experiences good and bad that you think future generations would be interested to know about. Please email your responses to me, Mr. Dominic King kingd@pnbhs.school.nz I am also very happy to answer any questions you might have about this process and the purpose of the records.

Your contributions can be as long or short as you wish. Some possible questions to consider are listed below, but we also welcome any perspective you are happy to provide.

1. How did life change for you?
2. How did Covid 19 affect your relationships: family; friends; work?
3. What were some of the good things about the lockdown?
4. What were some of the difficult/bad/hard things about the lockdown?
5. What aspects of life during lockdown do you think should be retained to make NZ/ the world a better place?
6. How did Palmerston North/your street/your friendships change?
7. Did the NZ Government handle the epidemic well? Please explain your answer
8. What would you have preferred the NZ Government do differently? Please explain your answer

I would really appreciate your input in his exercise. Anything you might wish to write down will be embargoed (held in confidence) for at least 10 years, so be assured you can be frank.

Thank you for your consideration of this request and contribution to the development of an important historical record for the school and our wider community.

Kind regards,

Dominic King
