2nd XV v Hamilton Boys' High School - Saturday 1 August

The 2nd XV travelled to Hamilton in confident mood following their victory over Hastings and were keen to try and build on that performance. From the kick off Hamilton came out firing and moved the ball very effectively, stretching the PNBHS defence. They were rewarded with an early try before the game became a relatively even battle with play moving from end to end. Unfortunately  after 25mins PNBHS picked up a yellow card reducing them to 14 men and during this period Hamilton piled on 19 points for a 26-0 halftime score.

PNBHS came out fired up for the second half and reduced the deficit with a try to Tremaine Makaora. With the bit now well and truly between their teeth they attacked Hamilton with vigour and it felt as though the next score would be crucial. PNBHS forced the play and created two or three opportunities that they were unable to convert before Hamilton scored a superb team try to effectively kill off the game. As PNBHS attacked with desperation they were hit with another sucker punch before a bad bounce summed up the team's day and saw the score blow out.

Final score 43-7

A tough day at the office for the team. Although they were competitive for long periods and can be proud of their second half effort, they were not clinical enough on either side of the ball and were heavily punished by a very good Hamilton side. The team now have a very short turn around before heading to New Plymouth for Round 3 on Wednesday where they will hope to be much more accurate and get their season back on track.

Scorers:

Tries: Tremaine Makaore

Conversion: Sam Coles
