3rd XI v Palmerston Cricket Club

The 3rd XI played Palmerston Cricket Club at Wallace Park and elected to bat after winning the toss. Van Prenter and Sam Kennett made a solid start getting through to 70 without loss at drinks. When Sam fell after drinks Michael Watkins kept building on the platform that had been set. Momentum continued to build and the partnership ended in the final over for 99. A further wicket fell with 2 balls to go and Van waiting at the non strikers end on 99. Thomas Fowell was able to work a very important single first ball to get Van on strike. A little push into the offside was enough for Van to scamper through to bring up his maiden century off 129 balls. The 3rd XI finished with 170-9 off their 40 overs. Van Prenter 100*, Michael Watkins 31 and Sam Kennett 23.

George Simpson and Saim Ahmed came out firing after the break and Palmerston managed to work their way to 68-3 at drinks. Further break throughs had Palmerston in trouble at 122-8 with 8 overs to go. With 2 overs to go 28 runs were needed with 1 wicket in hand. The set batsman brought up his 50 with a couple of lusty blows. 18 was needed off the last over and Palmerston believed. There was no interest in singles, and the boundary was cleared again. With 6 needed to tie off the last ball, the fielders dropped a little deeper and what looked like a dot ball was no balled for having too many fielders outside the 30 yard circle. Thomas Bell was able to keep his cool and kept it to a single. Palmerston 170-9 off 40 overs. A win to the 3rd XI by 4 runs. Dan McDougall 2-13, Thomas Bell 2-24 the rest of the wickets shared amongst the bowlers.
