Tū Kaha - PNBHS Waiata

Thank you to Head of Te Reo Māori Mr. Josh Strickland who has composed this waiata for our kura.  Young men in years 9 and 10 have been learning it over the last few weeks, while the staff spent time learning it on our two recent Teacher Only Days.  It was performed for the first time at the Junior Prizegiving.

Te Reo Māori

VERSE 1:

Ehara i te toa i te toa takitahi,

engari he toa, he toa takimano.

Mā te kotahitanga e whai kaha ai tātou.

CHORUS:

Tū kaha

Tū maia i te ao huri nei.

VERSE 2:

Titia ki te rangi

kia purapura tuawhiti.

Ko te pae tawhiti

Whaia kia tata e

Tū whakakake i te a o turoa nei.

CHORUS:

Tū kaha.

Tū maia i te ao huri nei.

English translation

VERSE 1:

Our strength does not come from ourselves alone, our strength derives from the many.

In unity we have strength.

CHORUS:

Be strong.

Be brave in this changing world.

VERSE 2:

Pierce the sky so that you may shine.

Seek out distant horizons, and cherish those you attain.

Stand tall and proud in this enduring world.

CHORUS:

Be strong.

Be brave in this changing world.
