CRICKET REPORT: PNBHS 1ST XI VS Freyberg CC – Semi-Final - 12/12/20

Curtis Heaphy won the toss and asked Freyberg to bat first on a tired-looking pitch. The PNBHS bowlers did not settle in well and the fielders looked flat as the opposition got away to a quick start. After 2 wickets and an improved effort in the field, Boys’ High managed to wrest back some control, but loose bowling soon had the opposition scoring freely again. Freyberg built strongly until the final dash saw plenty of runs and wickets for them to finish on 249 all out with 3 balls to go. Bayley Latter took 3 for 42 and Regan Fleming 3 for 41.

It was a promising start to the chase as the 1st XI batsmen looked untroubled, advancing to 31 before the first wicket fell. Another soon followed, before a promising stand took PNBHS to 103. Unfortunately, scoreboard pressure soon told and ill-considered shots led to wickets falling in quick succession. The tail tried to wag, but the total was a bridge too far and the team ended up losing their last wicket with the score on 170 in the 44th over. Jonty Fleck made 32, Curtis Heaphy 37 and Mr Davidson 44.

It was a disappointing end to a promising club 50-over season, but hopefully the players learned valuable lessons from the experience.
