PNBHS 1st XI VS Wellington College 1st XI – 50-over Match

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, the 1st XI made a steady start, but it was with a 3rd wicket stand of 84 and a 4th wicket partnership of 80 that the innings took shape. First Bayley Latter and Curtis Heaphy, then Heaphy and Jonty Fleck took the team past 200, before Angus Lyver finished the innings off with 14 from 6 balls. PNBHS finished with 220 for 7 from 50 overs.

The Boys’ High bowling stint did not start well, with some wayward bowling and 2 dropped catches. The fielding looked lethargic, and Wellington raced to 50 for 2 from 10 overs. Fortunately, wickets continued to fall, and the bowlers started to find their lengths more regularly. This put some pressure on the opposition and resulted in 2 runouts. The match continued to ebb and flow, but Wellington managed to hold their nerve to pass the PNBHS score to win by 2 wickets with 2 balls to spare. Josh Campbell was miserly with bowling figures of 10 overs, 2 for 22 and Aadesh Ganugapati took 3 for 48.

The 1st XI is on the road again on Thursday, as they return to Wellington to take on St Pats of Silverstream.
