Placemakers PNBHS 1st XI v Feilding United - Saturday 3 April

Placemakers PNBHS 1st XI played Feilding United in the opening round of the YORB Horizons Premiership, losing 3-4.

Getting to work quickly, PNBHS moved the ball through the midfield, creating many opportunities on goal.  Unfortunately, the last pass was often made difficult by the Feilding defenders, or the keen eye of the linesman flagged an offside play.  In the 11th minute, a through-ball split the defence and set up Jaiden Meyer on goal, shaking off an ankle tap and slipping the ball past the keeper.  Late in the first half, a similar play ended in similar fashion, PNBHS going into the break ahead.

The second half saw a drop in physical intensity from our boys.  Against the run of play, Feilding scored quickly, putting themselves back in the running.  PNBHS worked well to create opportunities for themselves, but again, the last pass struggled to stick.  An individual effort by Feilding saw an attacking run through the middle, the ball deflecting and falling in his favour at his feet, ending in the last goal of the game.  PNBHS goals were scored by Jaiden Meyer (2) and Thomas Bell.

It was a physical game to open a long season for the boys.  Congratulations to Matt Rowe, Ashton Castell-Spence, Matt Watson, Taine MacDonald and Matt Draper for making their debut for the Placemakers PNBHS 1st XI.  The team also wishes Matt Watson all the best for a speedy recovery.
