The 1st XI Hockey Team recorded a win and loss on the first day of the St Paul's ANZAC Tournament in Hamilton.

The first match was against a well-drilled and polished Westlake Boys' High School team. Westlake opened the scoring with a well-executed penalty corner before Zach Carline equalized with a breakaway goal. Westlake managed to score from a penalty corner again before scoring a scrappy goal close to halftime. Zach Carline scored again before the halftime whistle making it 3 -2 to Westlake.

The second half saw Westlake camp in the PNBHS half for some time, and they managed to convert shortly after the break. Perry Smith scored for PNBHS, keeping us in the game. Unfortunately, Westlake gained some ascendency and scored twice more before the full-time whistle. Westlake won the match 6 – 3. This game provided plenty to work on in defence; however, it also showed positive aspects of our attack.

The second match against Whangarei Boys' High School was played under lights at 6.00 pm. This match proved to a frustrating affair, with PNBHS dominating much of the game. Unfortunately, the first half remained scoreless, with chances going begging regularly.

The second half saw Blake Rhodes-Robinson and Josh Campbell finally break the deadlock with two well-worked goals. It was great to seal a 2 – 0 win; however, this match also provided plenty to work on for the team.

The team play St Paul's tomorrow at 10.00 am.
