The PNBHS 1st XV travelled to Gisborne for the first round of the Super 8 competition. The boys were aware that it is always difficult to get a win in Gisborne but after a good week of practice, they travelled in confident mood.

After an awesome haka from both schools, PNBHS started the game superbly. Curtis Heaphy made a break up the middle and found Jakob Rauhihi-Collis on his inside for the opening score. More PNBHS pressure followed and a charge down from Jett Donald-Charnley saw Eli Oudenryn score the second. PNBHS were flying now and counter-attack from Maraki Aumua was well finished by Curtis Heaphy before, after some good phases, Tayne Harvey scooted over and PNBHS led 26-0 after 25 minutes. Gisborne responded and were rewarded with a try before Curtis Heaphy added a further penalty on halftime.

The halftime talk focused on maintaining our accuracy on both sides of the ball and ensuring we continued to play in the right areas of the park.

An early try to Gisborne saw them close the gap before Curtis Heaphy slotted a couple of penalties to extend the lead again. PNBHS were controlling the game and following a driving maul and some patient play Cody Borlase powered over to secure a comprehensive victory for the PNBHS 1st XV 40-10.

A fantastic start to the Super 8 campaign and a performance the boys should be proud of. They have a week off now before they head into a game vs Hastings Boys.
