The 1st XI Hockey Team played Whanganui Collegiate on Thursday. This game was their second of the day after beating New Plymouth Boys' High School earlier that morning.
Whanganui Collegiate opened the scoring through a defensive lapse by the 1st XI. However, Tom Bayley evened the score with a goal towards the end of the first quarter. The match continued in a scrappy fashion, with Blake Rhodes-Robinson scoring early in the second quarter. Ben Havord then scored from an impressive drag-flick giving PNBHS a 3 – 1 advantage at halftime.
The third quarter continued much in the same vein, with PNBHS unable to play with their normal structure. Blake Rhodes-Robinson scored his second goal of the match before Perry Smith got on the scorecard. Whanganui Collegiate scored late in the third quarter. Will Roberts and Connor Managh scored in the final quarter, and Whanganui Collegiate had the last say, scoring in the dying minutes. A win to PNBHS 7 – 3.
The 1st XI remains undefeated after the first round of the Intercity Secondary School Division.
