The Institute of Registered Music Teachers Chamber Music Competition was held at Girls High School last Sunday. This is an opportunity for chamber music groups to compete in a number of sections based on ensemble type and ability. Twenty-eight Secondary school groups took part, four from PNBHS.

The L plates section is for those performing in public for the first time and the PNBHS Trio, Daniel Fox – flute, Lucas Richardson – clarinet and Rohan Kanagasundaram – piano were commended for their performance in this section.

In the four to eight performers section, our brass quintet Honkers: Tom Varney – mellophone, Junhee Cho – trombone, Callum McKinnon – trumpet, Josh Webster – cornet, Morgan Bradley - tuba received the Eddie O’Connoer MPACS trophy for a noteworthy performance comprising mainly Woodwind or Brass.

In the elite trio section, our remaining two groups The Liszt Fan Club: six hands on one piano Junhee Cho, Scott Du, Oliver Lu and Piano trio Strings Attached: Torrence Cheung – violin, Ian Teoh – cello, Scott Du - piano were placed first and second respectively. The Liszt Fan Club performed a piece written by their teacher, old boy Nick Hunter and received the Barrett Trophy.

Honkers, The Liszt fan club and Strings attached will be among the acts performing at next weeks Music Department Showcase Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th in the Spiers Centre.
