CRICKET REPORT: PNBHS 1ST XI VS Dannevirke Sports Club – 20/11/21

Having won the toss on a dry and abrasive-looking Dannevirke pitch, captain Jonty Fleck decided to invite the opposition to bat first. The opening bowlers were wayward, releasing any pressure with extras and struggling to find the ideal length. Luckily, this did not prove to be too costly, as Dannevirke did not take full toll and struggled to 48 in the 17th over before the first wicket fell. The spinners then took control in the sub-continent conditions and Mr Davidson’s off-spin ripped the heart out of their top order to reduce them to 61 for 4 in the 26th. The team’s other spinners also accepted the invite to the party and successively tied down the batsmen and them dismissed them. Dannevirke were bowled out for 131 in the 49th over. Ethan Campbell took 2 for 17, Lachie Bradford 3 for 23 and Mr Davidson 3 for 11.

The PNBHS innings started positively, as the openers worked the singles well and were harsh on anything short. The top and middle order patiently worked out the conditions and were not really troubled while accumulating runs. The 1st XI was able to cruise to victory in the 41st over with only 3 wickets down to win by 7 wickets. Jaiden Meyer scored 32, Van Prenter 33 and Jonty Fleck 40 not out.
