Cricket report – PNBHS 1st XI vs Auckland Grammar School – 3 Day Traditional – 06/03/22 - Day 1
Starting at 1.00pm, Auckland were asked to bat first. The PNBHS opening bowlers struck on the first ball of the second over. The Grammar batsmen went into rebuild mode, and with some challenging bowling and fielding, the scoring was slow. 113/2 after 60 overs soon became 130 all out. An excellent bowling day for PNBHS. F McVerry 4/31, A Ganugapati 3/27 with the best returns.
As we settled into a 40-minute session to stumps, a sense of déjà vu returned. The top order crumbled to some hostile and vigorous bowling to have us reeling at stumps with the score 7/5 for the second day in a row.
Not out of it yet, thanks to a very good first innings bowling effort, but we are certainly behind the 8-ball
Cricket report – PNBHS 1st XI vs Auckland Grammar School – 3 Day Traditional – 07/03/22 - Day 2
Starting the day 7/5 the batters knew they had a big task. The lower order worked hard to get our innings through to 45 before we were all out.
With the wicket flattening down batting seemed to get easier, however, runs were in short supply with a large, slow outfield. Grammar took their score through to 141/3 before they tried to increase the scoring rate for a declaration. They declared at 148/5 with an hour's play left in the day. A lead of 233. E Campbell 2/29.
A more competent batting effort was going to be needed the second time around. Our openers looked more solid on the flatter pitch and we were unlucky to be 23/1 at stumps.
A big batting day required day 3 for the 60 odd overs of play expected.
