Thank you to our Kapa Haka and Māori Performing Arts students who performed at assembly on Wednesday as part of our celebration of Matariki. Head of Te Reo Māori, whaea Debi Marshall-Lobb, spoke to us about the significance of Matariki, or Puanga as it is known to Rangitāne. During her presentation whaea Debi invited three of our Prefects – Haimona Maruera, Reihana Wetere and Aydin Newell - to present a Kōwhai tree to the Rector, Mr. Bovey, in recognition of the inaugural Matariki Public Holiday. The Kōwhai tree is a native plant that symbolises personal growth and helps people move in from the past with a renewed sense of adventure.
