Our clay target shooters journeyed north to Hamilton at the start of the holidays for the North Island Secondary School Championships. This even also doubled as our Super 8 tournament - where all three DTL disciplines count for Super 8 while only the Points Score ( triple points ) event counts as the North Island teams event. The lads had what can only be described as an outstanding weekend with the A team taking out both the North Island and Super 8 events. Having handled the windy and somewhat wet conditions extremely well in the Single Rise event – shooting 96 / 100 targets, they thought they had blown it in the Points Score where we were a good 15 to 20 points below our usual standard. However, when the scores were tallied, we were still ahead of the chasing pack.
With this came many impressive individual performances. The Lourie brothers placed 3rd in the two-man-teams Skeet event, Josh Bergerson took out the ‘High Over All’ Single Rise title with Sam Bayley placing first boys and Hayden Lourie placed 3rd boys in Points Score. Our young B team were not far off the pace placing mid table and setting themselves up for positive things to come. This is the result of a great deal of hard work, effort and ambition from all involved and truly reflects a whole team culture.
The A Team for this tournament was: Josh Bergerson, Callum Lowe, Hayden Lourie, Sam Bayley and Josh Lourie.
