At assembly this morning Year 12 student Leo Mwape was presented with two awards he won at the recent National Race Unity Speech Awards. Leo won the Tohu Manaakitanga - Manukau Institute of Technology Award for Manaakitanga, showing respect, generosity and caring for people and the Tohu Wherumatarau - Ministry for Ethnic Communities Award for Vision. Wherumatarau is a many-pointed star and carries connotations of being aspirational for the future.
To make these presentations we were joined by Jasmine Greaves, Operational Lead UCOL Te Pūkenga, Mr. Arthur Chin, Deputy Chief Executive, Strategic Engagement and Partnerships, representing the Ministry for Ethnic Communities, Senior Sergeant Beth Purcell, NZ Police, the major sponsors of the Race Unity Speech Awards, and Jasmine Bai, representing the Palmerston North Bahá’í community. We thank our guests for joining us this morning to make this presentation to Leo.
