Re: 2024 Subject Selection
While there is still a long time to go in the 2023 school year, we are in the process of beginning our planning for 2024. A core component of this process is your son’s subject selections. These decisions are important as the choices he makes influence the future pathways available to him.
To assist with this decision making, a Subject Information Evening is being held on Thursday, August 17. On this night you will have the opportunity to speak to teachers, Year Level Deans, the Careers Advisors and Heads of Departments. Liaison staff from Massey University, BCITO (Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation), PITO (Primary Industries Training Organisation) and UCOL will also be present to answer questions. These staff will be available in the school hall between 6.00pm and 7.00pm. We encourage you to check the resources at the links below so that informed decisions are made and that you can come to the Subject Information Evening prepared with any necessary questions.
Young men are encouraged to speak with teachers, Heads of Department and our Careers Advisor, Mr. Barwick (he is located in the Careers Room in C Block) over the coming weeks.
If your son is not returning to Palmerston North Boys’ High School in 2024 can you please complete the form at the following link so that we have that information: https://forms.office.com/r/rkNkNUnqy9
Our Careers Advisor, Mr. Barwick, has prepared a short presentation with some general advice about subject selection:

Young men and parents involved in the Accelerate Programme have an optional information session at 5.45pm in the Speirs Centre on Wednesday, August 17. At the conclusion of this presentation, you will be able to move to the school hall to speak to staff as necessary. The information at the link below outlines the course of study for accelerate students. It is important that young men who wish to study at university level in Year 13 plan their course progression accordingly: https://hail.to/pnbhs/publication/UKgQsw6
Please find attached to this letter instructions for making your son’s 2024 subject selections via the Parent Portal. If you are having difficulty accessing the Parent Portal please contact Mrs. Abbey Etchells (etchellsa@pnbhs.school.nz) for assistance.
Any questions regarding the subject selection process should be directed to the Deans of the year level your son is moving into in 2024: Year 10 – Ms. Liz Gray and Mr. Hayden Macdonald; Year 11 – Mr. Scott Davidson and Mr. Shaun McFarlane; Year 12 – Mr. Steven Vindriis and Mr. Grant McQueen-Davies; Year 13 – Mr. Bruce Kensington and Mr. Jack Siebert.
