On the 13th August, three Year 11 students competed in the regional round of the National Geography competition, ‘Maatangi Whenua’, organised by the New Zealand Board of Geography Teachers. The students were Han Park, Tav Hall and Shyam Vallabh.
This took place at the Massey University Geography building and involved students from all over the wider Manawatu region, with 12 teams competing. The students competed in eight 10 minute rounds of Geography based quizzes such as ‘Mould it’ (making geographic features from playdoh), Flag and country quizzes, an atlas challenge and some ‘Blues Clues’- determining the name of a country from some difficult clues.

The boys did very well in many of the rounds, with the Atlas challenge being one of their strongest. With some tough competition, they were happy to come away with a 5th place, with the first place going to Whanganui High School.
