It was a pleasure to welcome Old Boy Mr. Bruce Adamson to his old school today.

Mr. Adamson attended Palmy Boys’ from 1990 – 1994 and was in Kia Ora Club.  He played hockey throughout his time here and was in the 1st XI squad and captain of the 2nd XI in his final year.

Upon leaving school Mr. Adamson studied Law at Victoria University before practicing in the family and criminal courts in New Zealand until 2002 when he moved to Scotland.

He was part of the team that established Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People in 2005, was a legal officer at the Scottish Human Rights Commission and in 2013 was seconded to a position in Geneva with the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, representing institutions from more than 100 countries working to improve human rights globally.

Since 2017 Mr. Adamson has served as the Children and Young People’s Commissioner for Scotland.  During this time, his commitment to promoting and safeguarding the rights of children and young people across Scotland had a substantial and positive impact on children’s rights-based policy and practice.

Mr. Adamson delivered a powerful message at assembly about the importance of standing up for people’s rights.  Following this he met with a group of young men considering law as a career pathway and spent time with a social studies class to share some of his experiences.
