At assembly this morning we acknowledged some recent music successes.

Jesse Wallace is a member of MANifesto and the NZ Secondary Students’ Choir. He recently won the Choral Composition Competition for the National Big Sing for the best student composition in New Zealand this year. Jesse had his work performed at the National Finale and the trophy for this award was presented to him.

The PNBHS Stage Band competes at the National Jazz Band-it final in Wellington this weekend. Over 50 jazz bands entered the competition and for the third consecutive year, the Stage Band has made the top 10. They have placed second for the last two years and are looking forward to the challenge of trying to go one better. The members of the Stage Band are largely unchanged from last year:
Reagan Carver, Scott Sun, Camden Woodroofe, Armani Whitehead-Wilson on Trumpet
Teo Jauregui-Na, Junhee Cho, Oliver Song and Lucas Haas da Silva on Trombone
Stanley Pettengill, Mike Sung, Oliver Lu, Louis Crawford, Cillian Carroll on saxophones
Rhythm section: Benjamin Viljoen - piano, Jesse Wallace - Bass, Alex Christensen -guitar and Luca Tatana -Drums.

This morning music ties were presented to two new members of the band, Oliver Lu and Benjamin Viljoen.

The Shand Shield choral competition was held on Tuesday. This was a very successful event held in a really good spirit. The students with the most difficult job were the student leaders who directed their club’s choirs. This year the award for outstanding student leadership in the choral competition was presented to Junhee Cho from Albion.
