Earlier this year, Year 12 student Te Ariki Te Puni was selected as one of only 34 students nationwide in the Fuji Xerox Next Generation Leaders Programme.  As part of the programme Te Ariki has attended three separate leadership events in Auckland.

The first of these included presentations from Fuji Xerox New Zealand staff members, Sam Johnson (Student Volunteer Army, CHCH), Jake Millar (Oompher), Calum Revfem (Enviro Challenge Trust), Lisa Tamati (Ultra Marathon Runner), Shelley Campbell (CEO Sir Peter Blake Trust), and Jimi Hunt (Founder Live More Awesome Foundation).  During this day the attendees were challenged to start a Purposeful Acts of Leadership project, where they had the chance to apply real leadership skills to bring projects to life.

The second event was focused on careers and included presentations from Sarah Trotman (Director of Business Relations and Executive Education at AUT University Business School), Jamie Clarke (Antarctic Youth Ambassador for the Sir Peter Blake Trust and Strategic Account Director at Fuji Xerox), Calum Revfem (from the Enviro Challenge Trust), and visits to Microsoft, ICEHOUSE and New Zealand Opera.  Te Ariki also spent time at the Millenium Institute of Sport looking at the programmes offered there.

Te Ariki’s Purposeful Act of Leadership project was to set up an Expo for students to attend for support as the stressful ‘examination season’ begins, and for connections to be made with a range of local health and wellbeing providers and for the exploration of study and career pathways.  The ‘Revive Health and Wellbeing Expo’, was held today at the Convention Centre in Palmerston North and was attended by hundreds of secondary school students from throughout Palmerston North.

At the final session of the Fuji Xerox Next Generation Leaders programme, Te Ariki was one of only four participants who were presented with awards recognising their contributions to the programme, and the high quality of their Purposeful Acts of Leadership projects.  For this Te Ariki received $1500 from Fuji Xerox to help cover the costs of the Revive Expo and to help in making it a sustainable venture for the future.
